Victories and close calls as the BT kicks off at Sutton

While some of the players at Sutton Tennis Academy (STA) are preparing to compete in an important tournament on-site this week, others are still celebrating their fantastic results from last week.
 

STA Orange champs crowned

Sutton Tennis Academy held its Mini Academy Championships this past weekend, for Under 9 Orange ball players. This followed the Under 8 and Under 10 events held in mid-January
 
The winner of the Boys competition was Kai Luca Ampaw, who defeated Carl Holder. Natasha Surender was crowned the Girls champion after beating Alexia Litten. Well done to all of the players who competed! 
 

Timotin reaches first BT final

Last weekend one of Sutton Tennis Academy (STA)’s female players, Jennifer Timotin, reached the final of her first Aegon British Tour (BT). She was defeated at The University of Bath by a more seasoned competitor and the number two seed, Alexandra Walker.
 

STA Mini Academy Championships

Sutton Tennis Academy had record-breaking numbers competing in its Mini Academy Championships on Saturday. Our Under 8 Red and Under 10 Greens champions were crowned after defeating more than 75 entrants. 
 
In the Boys Under 10 event, Tom Dunlop defeated Freddie Plummer 4-2 4-0.
 
 
The Girls Under 10 winner was Katie MacLeod, who defeated Ariana Mehta 4-1 4-1. 
 

BT, ETA and ITF tournament excitement for STA players

This week continues to be extremely busy on the tournament front for Sutton Tennis Academy (STA) players. Several of our players are competing in International Tennis Federation (ITF), Tennis Europe (ETA), and British Tour (BT) events in both the United Kingdom and wider Europe. 
 

Christmas success in and outside STA

While the Christmas break was quiet for most, some of our players had a successful competitive week before the New Year commenced – including at a tournament held on-site at Sutton Tennis Academy (STA).

Jefferson qualifies for National Tour

Henry Jefferson won the Under 9s Winter Regional Tour held here at Sutton Tennis Academy on the weekend, earning him a place in the National Tour. He defeated James Diack in the final with a result of 3-7 7-4 7-5.
 

Miyazaki returns to STA for winter break

Lily Miyazaki, who trained at Sutton Tennis Academy (STA) for nine years before moving to the US in August 2014 to train at The University of Oklahoma (UoA), will be back at the centre on December 15. Like many of our players who enter the US college system, Miyazaki maintains her connection to STA and will continue to use it as a home training base.
