STA at ITF Veska 2015, Czech Republic

21st July 2015:  This week Laura Cazacu travelled to the Czech Republic for the ITF Veska 2015.  She successfully went through the qualifying rounds and made it through to the second round where unfortunately she lost 6-2, 6-2.  A great performance by Laura

STA 12U boys reach finals of the Aegon Team Tennis Premier

20th July 2015:  This weekend saw STA boys competing in the 12U Team Tennis Finals at the NTC Roehampton, following extremely tough qualification against the South East regional division.

The STA consisted of Harry Hewing, Raffaello Papajcik, David Middleton, Krisnaa Muhunthakumar and Finn Doyle. All the boys put in a fantastic performance and on Saturday won our semi-final against Corby six matches to zero:-

An accomplished performance from the STA players at Nike Junior ITF Queenswood

16th July 2015:  It is tennis tournament season and another great performance from our players at the ITF Queenswood tournament.

Brandon Murphy played some fantastic tennis, winning three qualifying rounds before losing in a tight three set match in the first round of the main draw against a tall, big-hitting Lithuanian opponent, with Brandon gaining more valuable experience.

STA success at ITF Juniors Edinburgh

13th July 2015: This weekend saw the STA take a team to the ITF Juniors tournament in Edinburgh where they put in a fantastic all round performance.

Top highlights included Gemma Heath who at 13 is currently playing some outstanding tennis.  She not only competed in her first ITF 18’s tournament but went on to the final where she won 6/2, 6/3 to claim her maiden title on her first attempt.  A fantastic start for her climb up the ITF ladder.

STA girls win County Cup

Three of our female players – Jizel Fernandes, Gemma Heath and Eloise Saraty – were part of the Surrey team that won the Aegon 14 & Under Girls County Cup this past weekend.

Team Tennis kicks off with a bang

The Aegon Team Tennis Surrey 2015 circuit is underway, with Sutton Tennis Academy (STA) having an impressive 19 teams involved. 
In the 8 & Under Mixed Division 1, the STA Aces have won one match out of two. 
In the 9 & Under Mixed Division 1, the STA Scorpions and STA Scorchers have won one of two matches apiece. In Division 2A of the same age group, the STA Cobras have also won one of two matches. 

Women perform well at the British Tour Sutton

Last week, Sutton Tennis Academy (STA) hosted the British Tour Sutton. Gemma Heath made it to the semi-finals of the main draw of the Open Women’s division after making it through the qualifying rounds at just 13 years old. She was defeated by the third seed and eventual winner, Helen Parish. Fellow STA player Abigail Amos also reached the quarter-finals.
