Heath wins British Nationals

Congratulations to Sutton Tennis Academy player Gemma Heath who won the British Under 14 girls title this past week in Nottingham. Gemma justified her number one seeding by winning the whole competition without losing a single set. Gemma was back on court the next day in preparation for her next tournament, which is an ITF Grade 4 in France. Good luck to Gemma and fellow STA player Laura Cazacu who are both  competing in the Grade 4 in Clermont—Ferrand. 

Success for STA’s Pitchley and Southwick at Morrison Solicitors Reigate Open Tournament

17th August:  Tom Pitchley competed in the 18U Boys Singles at the Morrison Solicitors Reigate Open Tournament.  His journey started with a quarter final win of 6-2, 6-4 against Jonathan Foster, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cameron Millar in the semi-final before going on to beat Zino Arbane 6-4, 6-4 in th

STA unveils new partnership with Chaoda International Tennis Sports Promotion Co. Ltd, Beijing

5th August 2015: Sutton Tennis Academy are pleased to introduce a new partnership with Chaoda (Beijing) International Tennis Sports Promotion Co. Ltd.  We have our first group of players arriving this August for two weeks. We will be providing them with intensive tennis training, English tuition, fitness, catering, accommodation with local families and cultural experiences. We are excited about this being the first of many camps and look forward to sharing more with you in due course.

A few changes to the STA coaching team

4th August 2015:  It is with regret that Sutton Tennis Academy will say farewell to David Brewer this August 2015. 

David has been an inspirational coach and instrumental in leading the men's tennis programmes forward. His new appointment will see him take the position as Head Coach at Merchiston School in Scotland. Davidwill be sorely missed by management, staff, parents, players and Sutton.  We wish both Roxy and David all the best for their future.

Pitchley runner up at Grade 3 Regional Open Tournament, Pit Farm

28th July:  Pit Farm hosted the prestigious Grade 3 Regional Open Tournament  20th – 25th July where STA’s Tom Pitchley was runner up in the U16 boys.

Pitchley played well, beating tough opponents including Jamie Boden, Luiz Felipe Maia, Luke Hymas and Taylor Papworth. On finals day, despite performing well he was runner-up to Thomas Norwood, who also went on to win the 18U final.

It is the best result Tom has achieved so far and here at STA the whole team are very proud of all the work he has put in and his success in this tournament.

Outstanding performance by David Brehme and the STA 16U boys at 18th TeamBath CoMpete Open Tennis Festival 2015

27th July 2015:  Last week saw a fantastic competition for out 16U boys at the 18th TeamBath CoMpete Open Tennis Festival, with four STA players participating; Joshua Goodger, Alexander Romay, David Brehme and Zack Norman.

27th July: The same STA boys in the 16U boys singles, took part in the 18U category.

Zack Norman made it through to the second round where he retired at 3-4 from the match against Millen Hurrion.

Joshua Goodger went through to the third round where he was beaten by Joseph Ellis 7-5, 6-3.

David Brehme was beaten in the second round 6-3, 6-0 to Angus Bradshaw who went on to win the tournament.

A promising performance and excellent experience in this older category for our STA boys.


STA Boys perform well at 18th TeamBath CoMpete Open Tennis Festival 2015

22nd July 2015:  A good solid performance by the U12 STA boys team this week. 

George Shields had a tough first round losing 7-5, 6-1.  Finn Doyle, Harry Hewing and Raffaello Papajcik all did a brilliant job making it through to the second round of the 12U Boys Singles.  Finn went out to Harry Cookson 6-1, 6-1; Harry was defeated by Isaac Jochim 6-2, 6-1 and Raffaello lost to Roan Jones 6-0, 6-0 but all showed great spirit.
